Amboseli National Park is located south of Kenya on the border with Tanzania. It is the second most visited park in Kenya after Masai Mara Nation Reserve.
The park is famous for being the best place to see the spectacular heard of elephants roaming the vast plains in search of food and water. Another highlight of this park includes the breathtaking views of snow-capped peak of Mount Kilimanjaro, the worlds tallest free standing mountain.
Amboseli National Park was home to an elephant named “Echo’’ who became the most researched elephant in the world. This elephant became the subject of many books and documentaries because she was being followed for almost 40 years by an American researcher Dr. Cynthia Moss . Echo the elephant died of natural causes at the age of 65 years in May of 2009.
Wildlife to see in Amboseli park include elephants, bufallos, impalas, lions, cheetahs, hyenas, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, leopards and may more.
Amboseli National Park is beautiful all year round but the best time to visit is during the dry months from June to October and January to February.
The long rains occur from the month of March to the end of May and this is the time when the park’s vegetation is dense and also flooded with water making wildlife observation a little bit tricky.
