Murchison Falls National Park in Uganda is the largest park in the country. The park is bisected by the river Nile which squeezes through a 7 meter narrow gorge before plunging with a thunderous roar into ‘’ devil’s cauldron “ creating a trademark rainbow.
From there, the waters travel in a smooth-gentle flow towards Lake Albert which is not far from the water fall. The banks along this river host numerous visits from elephants, buffalos, hippos, Nile crocodiles and several species of aquatic birds.
Murchison falls National Park is also well renowned because of the film “The African Queen” starring Humprey Bogart and was filmed on Lake Albert and the Nile in 1951.
The park is home to other several species of wildlife including lions, elephants, leopards, Rothschild giraffes, hyenas, Uganda Kob and many more.
Notable visitors to the park include Ernest Hemingway, Winston Churchill, Theodore Roosevelt and several British royals.
The park hosts over 450 species of birds such as the rare shoebill. Other common species seen are the African fish eagle, social weavers, bee-eaters, yellow-footed flycatcher, African jacana, Abyssinian ground hornbill, and malachite kingfisher.
